Tharn-fall of efrafa-reworking by paper aeroplane-cello by me

Paper Aeroplane & Fall Of Efrafa - Tharn by At Home
Richard Phoenix of Paper Aeroplane just posted this track on soundcloud.
I was pulled in to add some cello to this reworking. Its a crazy piece from the band 'Fall of Efrafa' that has been a trilogy of albums encompassing the books of watership down. Cue really heavy downtuned guitars and some primal screaming. But an interesting piece. Apparently the vinyl is a collectors item and i cannot finds my copy!!!!! I'm so smart my shit shines!!!

Collaboration with Martin Green John Blease

Green 5 by tomcook
working towards a show at Celtic Connctions with Martin Green and John Blease, this is an ableton jam that has been reworked to build transitions, we are currently using the first tune and last, adding a dropout using some crazy sounds from tiny drum tines that john has, martin has written a great tune to follow that and then some crazy circus style mashup, just got to give it an end, oh and get it down to 10 minutes!!!
will post the final piece later ion the month

Wait one More remaster, 2003 album by Tom Cook (Manni).

wait one more 2003 by tomcook
2003 a prolific year for me a think nearly three albums created that year, living with the mighty Sam Catling and the original man of funk Del Vanderpants.
Blink it away-a cartoonesque cut up of strangely linking lines, using the last word form one line to veer off into a new one.
One shot- the title is based on a Frank Zappa song 'it might just be a one shot deal', a bit of urgency is always useful when your are a drifting musician, lets just fire the arrow and get on with it!!
Mowumm-One of my favourite pieces, really exploring the use of sampling and vocals.
Woah Boy-A broken toy sound box starts this piece, it has been released by liftmusic and has been on cbbc and other such channels. Upbeat and hectic, this style has become something thya i love doing, using my sugar rush mind and love of riffs.
Mirror of me-After some tough years in my teens and early twenties, my mind needed some clearing and found a great man, Richard Spurgeon who became a mirror for me using pyschosynthesis to release a poor battered lad from inside me. This is about looking a letting go of grief.
Glasso- as is often the way i name my synth patches and songs with bizarre titles , the main glass like sound is called glasso so there you are (luckily the sound soft oral hasn't made it yet!)
Wait on More-As teenagers my old band the Razorbacks went on a caravan holiday, after food poisoning and alot of different substances, somehow a tape was made of us talking and 'wait one more' was the phrase that stuck in our heads. Is it a want for excess, a call to not be alone or just someone wanting to wait one more.
Losing your tether-there was a certain panic about in the early 00's, people were doing well money was good but beneath was a strange furore.
Nemo- my dad is an organist who sports a fine beard and has always been called nemo by some of my older friends, this is a track for him, don't think i ever told him though, better do it!
Helm-Adam curtis is an amazing documentary maker and social commentator whose series century of the self spawned this track. The main parts of this involve people going through therapy sessions to release their animal owerful selves, with some comic results, but the essence is there.
Arms-this track sometimes appears on this album and is just a love song for all the girls you lose, or leave, you never stop loving, but you love the memory i feel....

Zoofood remastered, 2005 album Tom Cook (Manni).

Zoofood 2005 by tomcook
2005 the year of the child i think. My last album before Heli was born and time spent writing endless albums for noone to hear  had to end. This album was supposed to be more approachable than previous work, with louder vocals and more song based pieces. I had recently bought a cello and had forced myself to learn it !! Some of the cello playing is just about passable!
Oh i get ideas- As most people will say i am annoyingly chipper especially in the mornings when most musicians are miserable ****s. But i am plagued with ideas and especially music which will keep me awake for hours, luckily having children has lessened this. This track is a chipper expression of that.
This, this could be- the beginning of new life, well we had a child later that year so, its self explanatory, something of a journey and something not taken lightly, a whole new world has arisen and i love every minute of it.
Meikaels Boat- a nod to both michael nyman and steve reich, i was raised with the music of steve reich, bach, oscar peterson and the king singers, an eclectic mix but i think it all makes sense.
See the funny side- i was once semi spiked with mushrooms but had a great night, i saw the funny side and this is mushroom music to me, its not drifting psychadaelia but strange english cartoon chappie music, if that genre exists!!!
democracy tastes a little bit like chicken-the older you get thew more cannibalistic democracy seems, esecially with the switch from royal families to multi nationals. meaningful democracy, a teenage dream or something to get involved for.
I recall-living in shared houses you get to meet bailiffs and all sorts of wonderful people, max drozian is an invention of the worst flatmate ever. But it has got close before!!!
The b.a.r.t- the Bay Area Rail Transportation system runs from san franscisco under the bay to portland, its all the things british travel isn't, cheap fast, safe, modern, but it does go under the ocean in an earthquake area, a little scary.
Sane as- the Cello took over this year and having low harmonies on it created a very moving accompaniment to this break style funky piece.
Are you fine-Are you fine? Such an empty phrase and a piece about modern life, stress, mortality, existance but starting with a distanced feel of the fine brigade and then letting itself fall into the emotion of final art.
All we think is nought but electric will earth away, stones that stand and ideas ran into soceity will stay. Still proud of that line, sometimes they fall out .
I am ambition- I did some soundtracks for a contemporary dance show by adults with learning difficulties, and one of the guys there had an amzing way of talking and pronouncing his stories, letting out detail by detail to build odd revolving pictures, this track is inspired by him and is a description of my capricornious route through music, i, i am walking, the discovery and awareness of your own creativity, you the audience, she is insiration like the sun, its a hill that needs climbing, then sometimes its all downhill, but you need to put the work in to keep up your momentum.
Easy- this album was suppose to be a double cd affair, but i think my daughter Heli is the second disc as she appeared and is a constant collaboration, that will be ready for her own journey whenevr she wants!!! So i think moving into the easy was important to save energy for the hill of parenthood.

Hello world

Hello and welcome to Tomcooksound.
As a manic music maker i will try to keep up to date with what i'm producing and ideas and projects i'm working on.
Hopefully linking up with my soundcloud music and sharing alot of the music i get up to.
Some will be old, from the cassettes of the late 80's, and others fresh, from collaborations of weekly musical life.
I hope you enjoy some of what appears.
Cheers Tom
